Since 2014, the Schiller Park Police and Fire Departments together have participated in the annual “National Drug Take-Back Day” and have collected over 515lbs of unwanted and potentially dangerous drugs.
Responding to the popularity of this national program with residents, the Schiller Park Police Department has now become a permanent collection site for your unwanted or expired medications, and we invite all residents to take advantage of this new program on a regular basis.
The Police Department now has a drug collection box in the police station located in the rear of the village hall at 9526 W. Irving Park Road. The take-back program is free and residents may turn-in their unwanted drugs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week while remaining anonymous.
This program prevents abuse and theft, and accidental overdoses of both prescription and over the counter drugs by clearing homes of expired and unwanted drugs. It also prevents unwanted and potentially toxic drugs from being flushed down toilets or ending-up in landfills after being thrown into household trash.
The Police Department can accept medical-grade dry pills, tablets, caplets etc. in a container/wrapper or bottle. Loose, unpackaged pills/tablets cannot be placed in the drop box and must be placed in a bottle or some kind of secure container prior to being dropped in the receptacle. Acceptable items also include; prescription patches, packaged prescription samples, and over the counter pills/tablets, and solid vitamin tablets.
The following items however; cannot be accepted or placed in the receptacle:
To turn-in your unwanted drugs, simply come into the police station anytime and tell the staff you have drugs you would like to dispose of and they will take your drugs with no questions asked.
