IDOT work on the drainage grates of the Irving Park Road viaduct starts on Thursday, November 8th and was scheduled to last until Tuesday, November 20th. It now appears that it may take longer depending on weather and other factors.
The original schedule was from November 8th to November 15th the westbound curb lane was scheduled to be closed and from November 15th to November 20th the eastbound curb lane was scheduled to be closed. These closures are needed to allow for the installation of new high velocity drainage grates in the viaduct. Once installed these new grates will allow for a more rapid flow of water to the pumps and therefore make the viaduct less prone to being closed due to flooding. The Village worked with IDOT to get these grates installed and is pleased that the work is being done.
