Village of Schiller Park
Dear New Schiller Park Resident,
The Village welcomes you to Schiller Park. The Village hopes you enjoy living here and come to care about this wonderful town. There are many services and activities available for residents of the Village and hope that you are well served by the Village’s services and also are able to take advantage of some of the recreational opportunities our community has to offer.
In addition to welcoming you to town, the Village wants to take advantage of this opportunity to inform you about some important matters that you should address now that you are living in Schiller Park. First the Village, like most other Chicago area communities, has a mandatory vehicle sticker program. Within 30 days of moving into the Village you must buy a vehicle sticker for each vehicle housed in the Village (regardless of where the vehicle is registered) or you will likely get a ticket from the Police Department. The amount charged for the sticker will depend on the type of vehicle in question. The amount charged also increases if you wait more than 30 days after you move in to get your sticker(s). A vehicle sticker application (containing details about the charges) can be obtained at the Village Hall during normal business hours. In order to obtain your sticker when you come in you will need to know your license plate number as well as the make, color, and year of your car.
Second in order to ensure uninterrupted water service to your residence you (or your landlord if you are a tenant) are required to fill out and sign an “Application for Water Service”. As part of this process you will need to make full payment of any outstanding water bill balance owed on your residence. This must be paid regardless of whether you incurred the charges or if a former owner or occupant did so. A copy of the application form can also be obtained at the Village Hall. Please come by to fill one out as soon as is practicable.
Third, your new residence should have 2 large GROOT refuse carts – 1 of these (the large one with the black lid) is for regular garbage, while the other (the slightly smaller one with the green lid marked “For Recycling Only”) is of course for recycling. If you don’t have one or both of these carts or you have any questions about the Village’s refuse removal program please contact the Village Hall. A brochure from GROOT explaining the refuse removal program can be obtained at the Village Hall.
Finally the publishes a Village Calendar each year, which contains dates for regular Village meetings, a list of useful phone numbers, as well as some valuable general information about Village services. The Village hopes you drop by the Village Hall to pick up a calendar and remember to pick up a new one up each year.
You should also be aware that the Village maintains a full array of parks and recreational opportunities with discounted rates for residents. This includes the Recreation Center (gym, racquetball, and fitness center), the Activity Center (pre-school program, rental room), North Village Park (kiddie spray play area), and the new water park (including 3 water slides, kiddie spray play area, and zero depth entry activity pool). Details about all of the offerings are listed in the Recreation Department Brochure, please contact the Recreation Department at (847) 671-8580 if you want a copy of the most recent brochure or if you have any questions.
If you want the Village to mail you any of the information mentioned in this letter, or if you have questions please feel free to contact the Village at (847) 678-2550. You may also wish to visit Village Hall at 9526 West Irving Park Road about any of the above referenced issues or to ask questions in person if that is your preference. Village Hall Office Hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday – Friday and 9:00 AM to Noon on Saturday. There is also a drop box for water bills, vehicle stickers, or other paperwork outside the Village Hall if you can’t drop by during normal business hours. Furthermore details about Village events and other useful information can be found on this website.
Sincerely,
The Village of Schiller Park
