The Department also has a Detective Unit that investigates crimes after they occur. The detectives in the unit work closely with those in surrounding jurisdictions to identify trends or patterns of crimes in the area. The detective division also investigates juvenile crime in the community and provides Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) classes in the schools. Detective Russell Klug of the Schiller Park Police Department is assigned to the five elementary schools in the Village of Schiller Park as a School Resource Officer (SRO). Detective Klug has many responsibilities beyond D.A.R.E. and V.E.G.A. instruction. He serves as the liaison between the Schiller Park Police Department and the schools of our community. Detective Klug is assigned to the schools on a full-time basis and is a certified juvenile officer. He is available to the schools on a daily basis and can assist in such matters as crime prevention, school security, truancy, as well as, social/community issues and programs. Detective Klug can be contacted by phone at (847) 678-4794 or by e-mail at sro.rklug.dare@villageofschillerpark.com The Schiller Park Police Department has joined both the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System (N.I.P.A.S) and the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force (WESTAF). The Department's participation in N.I.P.A.S. and WESTAF ensures that the Department has substantial additional manpower and resources at it's disposal should a large scale catastrophe or major crime occur in the Village. Some other services provided by the Police Department include the Community Policing initiative and the Bicycle and Foot Patrol units. The Community Policing initiative, initially started with a government grant, was so successful the Village chose to continue it after the grant expired. Manned by Officer Frank DeSimone, the Community Police section aids residents and businesses with advice, crime prevention talks, or sometimes just friendly conversation. The Community Police section can be contacted via phone at (847) 678-4794 or by e-mail at fdesimone@villageofschillerpark.com. Officers on Bicycle and Foot Patrols can be seen in residential neighborhoods and elsewhere in the community when weather permits.
