Summer 2010 Planning Internship
Job Description:
Planning & Zoning internship in an exciting community adjoining the City of Chicago and O’Hare International Airport. The Village has diverse land use with a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial land uses. Schiller Park is a transportation hub with a cargo rail yard, metra service, the Tri-State Tollway, Irving Park Road, and Mannheim Road.
Duties:
Technical, professional and administrative work as follows:
- Building permit zoning review
- Field work inventorying land uses and non-conformities
- Maintain monthly planning reports
- Review development concept plans
- Sign permit reviews
- Statistical research involving TIF districts
- GIS mapping
- Zoning & Planning Board agenda compilation and distribution
- Other Planning, Zoning, and Building Department duties as assigned
Experience required: Minimum completion of junior year in a city planning or closely related major.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Successful work toward a bachelor's or master’s degree in urban planning or related field required. Knowledge of land use regulations and site planning; knowledge of architectural and spatial design; economic and statistical knowledge is a plus; ability to understand and interpret village policies, procedures and ordinances; GIS technical skills, ability to work within time constraints and to prioritize work; ability to prepare plans, reports, and studies; communicate effectively; ability to work with the public at large. Must have a valid driver’s license. Subject to pre-employment drug screening and background check.
Pay Range: $10+ /hr. DOQ. Not eligible for benefits.
Other Information: This is a full-time (40 hrs. per week) internship with no benefits. Term: May 15 to August 15. It is contingent on funding in the fiscal year 2011 budget starting May 1, 2010. This position is intended as a true academic internship for coursework credit. Only those enrolled in a university program of study will be considered.
Recent graduates not enrolled in a degree program will not be considered.
