7/1/12 Storm & Power Outages

7/3/2012

This is an important message from the Village of Schiller Park. As we are sure you know, a significant wind storm hit the area on July 1st which knocked out power to more than 300,000 homes and businesses in the DuPage and West Cook County area. Most of Schiller Park had on and off outages between Sunday and Tuesday. The Village was in contact with Commonwealth Edison throughout this period. Unfortunately, Com Ed was not able to provide us with accurate and timely information through most of this period. For instance, most power was restored by late afternoon on Monday only to be lost again later that evening. The Village received no notice or explanation about this outage reoccurrence.
The Village is aware this is a terrible situation for our residents who lose power. We are very frustrated with Com Ed’s performance during this outage. This type of event is why the Village implemented and still offers our generator grant program (information about this program is available on this website). Because of the excessive heat the Village Hall cooling center remains open should any of our residents need it. Please enter through the Police Department outside of normal business hours to use the center.
It is our understanding that power has been restored to almost all residents - if for some reason you are still without power at this time please contact the Village at (847) 678-2550 so we can make sure Com Ed is aware of your situation
