Schiller Park Firefighters Association Lends Helping Hand
2/2/2010
The Schiller Park Firefighters Association helped a Schiller Park family have a merry Christmas after the loss of their home due to a fire on December 12, 2009.
The family included two sons; an 18-month old and 8-year old. The Firefighters Association used funds from their “Fire Victim Relief Fund” along with donations from each member to buy the children new Christmas presents to help take the place of gifts lost in the fire.
Firefighter Vito LiRosi fought the Christmas crowds to find everything on the family’s list and, along with several members of the department, delivered the presents on Christmas Eve. The Firefighters also surprised and thrilled the family with a ride in a fire engine.
When asked about the donation, Firefighter Association President Blaine Schneider said “The main driving force of our association is community. We took an oath to protect them, and to us that means more than just responding when called. If it is in our power to help make things better, we will do it.”
