Water Rate Increase Information

1/17/2012

On January 10, 2012 the Village Board reluctantly approved a 25% water rate increase for all Schiller Park customers that will take effect with all water bills starting after February 1, 2012. This unfortunate action was the direct result of a 25% increase in the cost of water that the City of Chicago implemented on all its municipal water customers, including Schiller Park, effective January 1, 2012.

The Village Board regrets that this action was necessary but given the rate increase Chicago imposed on the Village there was really no choice but to pass along a similar increase to our customers in Schiller Park. Numerous other suburban municipalities have taken similar action in response to Chicago’s rate increase so Schiller Park customers are not alone in dealing with this significant increase. Schiller Park, in partnership with many other communities, has protested Chicago’s action but thus far the City has insisted that the 2012 25% rate increase will not be changed and that future rate increases already planned for 2013-2015 will also remain in place.

Once again the Village Board regrets that this rate increase was necessary but given Chicago’s action there was really no other option but to pass along a similar increase to our customers. The new rates are as follows:

New Rates Effective After 2/1/12

Minimum Water $39.96     (First 6,000 Gallons)

Minimum Sewer $5.22      (First 6,000 Gallons)
______

Total Minimum Bill $45.18

Per 1,000 Gallons Charge (After First 6,000 Gallons)

Water $6.66

Sewer $0.87
______

Total Per 1,000 Gallons $7.53
