Overview of the Schiller Park Fire Department
Under the general direction of the Fire Chief, fire protection and rescue services are provided 24 hours a day, 365 days per year. These services are provided from one-manned and one-unmanned fire station in Schiller Park. Additionally, agreements are in effect to provide automatic fire and rescue assistance from the villages of Franklin Park and from the Norwood Park Fire Protection District. All structure fires receive an immediate response of two (2) Engines, two (2) Trucks and one (1) Ambulance with a minimum of fourteen (14) fire fighting personnel. Other assistance is available under the terms of the Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) agreement.
Under the direct command of the Battalion Chiefs, fire suppression and EMS services are maintained by three (3) shifts, each working 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off duty. Our initial response consists of one (1) Battalion vehicle, one (1) Engine, one (1) Truck, one (1) Ambulance, with one (1) Engine and one (1) Ambulance in reserve. These reserve units are to be utilized by call-back personnel. An Engine, manned by firefighting personnel, responds and assists on all EMS responses. This Engine is equipped with EMS equipment so that it can provide medical care when an Ambulance is not readily available. The Engine and Truck are staffed with firefighter-paramedics.
