The joint animal trapping program run cooperatively by Leyden Township and the Village runs April to October each year. Schiller Park residents can access the program (when it is operating April - October) by calling the Community Development Department at (847) 671-8555 or the Village Hall at (847) 678-2550 to order a trap. You will need to specify the type of animal you are looking to capture as the trap provided varies by the size of the animal - traps are either large or small. In particular skunks need to be trapped using a special skunk trap to ensure that the animal does not "spray" those removing it. Please keep in mind that the traps provided under this program are for outdoor use only - Leyden Township will not collect a trapped animal from inside your home or garage.
Once you order a trap it will be delivered by Schiller Park Public Works with instructions including details on the type of bait to use for your type of animal. Once you have caught an animal please contact the Village at the number on the instructions so that Leyden can be notified to come get the animal that day. If no one answers please leave a voicemail with your name, address, phone number, and location of the trap on your property.
All empty traps are collected each Friday morning because you are not allowed to trap an animal on the weekend. If you still need the trap and want it returned on the following Monday please let Public Works know and they will try to honor your request.
If you have questions about this program please call the Village Hall at (847) 678-2550.
