FEMA Offers Summer Internships in Chicago and Washington

Each year, the Department of Homeland Security-Federal Emergency Management Agency hires Pathways Summer Interns. The internship program provides students enrolled in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with opportunities to work in agencies and explore Federal careers while still in school. FEMA will consider currently enrolled students or those accepted for enrollment and seeking a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution on a half-time or full-time (as determined by the educational institution) basis.

 

Important additional information:

  • Internships are 90 days in length and can be extended an additional 30 days.
  • Interns may not be converted to another internship position or to a term or permanent position.
  • Summer Interns Pay & Benefits:
    1. Not Eligible for FERS/FEGLI, only FICA until they have completed at least 1 year of continuous service;
    2. Not Eligible for Within Grade Increase (WIGI); and,
    3. Eligible for sick leave.
