Triton College RSVP Program Offers Free Tax Help to Seniors

RSVP Program Logo

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) of West Suburban Cook and Southern DuPage Counties, sponsored by Triton College in River Grove, once again is offering the Internal Revenue Service’s Tax Counseling for the Elderly (TCE), a free program for individuals age 60 and older from low-to-moderate income households. RSVP has provided this program for more than 20 years in partnership with the IRS.

Volunteer tax assistors are specially trained to help people complete their taxes. The volunteer tax assistors are individuals who are older adults as well as college-aged students. The assistance includes helping participants complete federal tax forms and the state income tax forms. All tax returns are submitted electronically once completed. There will be sessions at the Schiller Park Community Center with dates & times to be announced. Last person seen will be at 12:30 pm. Appointments are Required. Triton staff will begin taking appointments as early as Monday, January 23, 2023 from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm at 708-456-0300 extension 3895. Village Staff cannot take any appointments for this program -- if you are interested you must call Triton College at the number given to make an appointment with them.

Please keep in mind that there are tax help sessions offered at various other locations throughout the area over the next few months. When you call Triton you can also make an appointment at one of those locations if the days/times offered at the Schiller Park Community Center are not good for your schedule. After participants make an appointment, they will be requested to bring with them their Social Security Benefits Statement or Social Security Cards, W-2 forms from all employers, Form 1099s (interest statements from banks), a copy of last year’s tax return and any other relevant tax information.
